«...Pyotr Vostokov who runs the fantastic Bolshoi Jazz Orchestra. We wish we could have been in that

audience, relaxing to some of the greatest music ever written, performed by a group of musicians who

truly know how to bring the notes on the page to life.»

David Berger, conductor and arranger for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra from 1988 through 1994

The times of Golden jazz fever, swing and long queues into the dancing clubs - such an atmosphere The Big Jazz Orchestra aka The Bolshoi Jazz Orchestra (BJO) revives on their concerts. Recreating the true sound of that era of music, using only original scores and authentic musical instruments, the orchestra presents to the audience unique programs, dedicated to the "greatest giants" of the orchestral jazz from completely different times and styles - from the sweet jazz of the 20's by Paul Whiteman to the rock of the late 60’s by Buddy Rich, from an entertaining dance swing to serious music works such as Suites of Duke Ellington, from classic Mambo of Tito Puente and Perez Prado to jazz interpretations of The Beatles.

The Orchestra includes almost the entire avant-garde of the Moscow jazz scene and like-minded musicians, graduates of the Gnesin Academy of Music. Singer Daria Antonova and trumpeter Peter Vostokov has founded the Orchestra and the first performance took place in October 2010 on stage of the Central Journalists House in Moscow. In April 2011, they have already won the Grand Prix at the International Usadba-Jazz Young Performers Competition. In addition, the same year, the orchestra became the winner of the first International Gnesin-jazz Festival of Young Performers. From 2012 to the present the Orchestra is a resident of the famous jazz club "Essay" and a regular guest of various national and international jazz festivals ("Jazz Triumph", "Jazz in the Hermitage garden", "Usadba-jazz", "Koktebel Jazz Party", etc.). The band performs at the most prestigious concert halls of Moscow, including the Grand hall of Moscow Conservatory, the Svetlanov hall of International House of Music, the Hall of the State Kremlin Palace, and also tours the country a lot. In 2017, the debut album was recorded at the legendary "Tonstudio" at Mosfilm.

Peter Vostokov, the leader and the trumpeter of the Orchestra, was born in Moscow. In 2003, he graduated from The Gnesin Special Music Lyceum and in 2009 The Gnesin Academy of Music. He is a graduate of the American-Russian educational program “Open World” - in 2006 he performed at the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in the United States. He was a member of such famous Moscow jazz bands as Anatoly Kroll Academic-Band, Igor Butman big band, the State Chamber Orchestra of Jazz Music named after Oleg Lundstrem and the Arsenal band of Alexey Kozlov.
